German, Israeli and U.S. Embassies
Organize Joint Reception to Honor
Centropa Summer Academy

The Ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel, the State of Israel H.E. Aliza Bin-Noun and the United States of America H.E. Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis will host a reception on July 12 at Andrassy University on the occasion of the annual Centropa Summer Academy, which is visiting Prague, Vienna and Budapest, 5-13 July.

Centropa is a Vienna and Budapest-based, US registered non-profit Jewish historical institute that specializes in using new technologies to preserve Jewish memory, and then disseminates its findings in unique and innovative ways.

This year, the Centropa Summer Academy has gathered 65 teachers, school directors, university deans, pedagogical experts, US congressional aides and civil servants from 12 countries, all of whom specialize in history, Jewish history, Holocaust studies and English.

This nine day seminar is being primarily conducted by the educators themselves. They are sharing Centropa's database of 20,000 family pictures and stories to bring Jewish history to life. This information will then be passed on to students.

Background: This year marks Centropa's tenth anniversary. The organization was founded in Budapest by Edward Serotta, an American journalist who lived in Hungary from 1988-1990 and now resides in Vienna. Two young Hungarian historians, who wanted to preserve their own grandparents’ family stories and old photos were co-founders of the organization. Centropa now works in a dozen countries, connecting students and teachers to Jewish history and to each other.

H. E. Mr. Miklós Réthelyi the Minister of National Sources participates on the venue.

Venue: Andrássy University, (Festetics Palota) 1088 Budapest Pollack Mihály tér 3.
Time: on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 18.00 hours.

The event is open for the media.
